Europe has established minimum requirements for the safety, strength, and durability of all types of household seats for adults through the Furniture - Strength, Durability, and Safety - Requirements for Household Seats (EN12520:2015). This standard replaces ENV 12520:2000 and was developed by the Furniture Technical Committee of the European Standards Committee (CEN/TC207) and approved by the Standards Committee CEN.
This standard specifies the minimum requirements for the safety, strength, and durability of all types of household seats intended for adult use. The test is conducted on the basis of a user weighing up to 110 kilograms.
The key contents of this standard include the following:
1、 Structural requirements include overall requirements for the process and testing requirements for shear and extrusion points, stability, strength, and durability.
2、 The overall requirements of the process specify in detail that all components in contact with the user during the use of the seat should be designed to ensure that they do not cause personal injury.
3、 The requirements for shear and extrusion points include:
Requirements for shear and extrusion points during setting and folding
Requirements for shear and extrusion points when driven by a power mechanism
Requirements for shear and extrusion points during use
4、 The requirements for seat stability should clearly comply with the corresponding standard provisions of EN1022 (Household Furniture - Determination of Seat Stability).
5、 The strength and durability of seats should be tested according to the new standards and specified testing sequence, as well as the testing conditions in EN1728 (Household Furniture - Seats - Determination of Strength and Durability Testing Method).
Due to the existence of corresponding European standards, this new standard does not apply to rows of seats, non household seats, office work chairs, office hospitality chairs, educational institution seats, outdoor seats, and seats intended for use with links. Excluding durability requirements for decorative materials, casters, reclining and tilting mechanisms, and seat height adjustment mechanisms. Excluding electrical safety requirements. The requirements for anti-aging, anti degradation, flame retardancy and ergonomics are not included.
